The audiophile turntable will be available to buy in summer 2018.

Technics has shared details of its latest turntable, the Reference Class SP-10R. 

Technics' "most premium analogue, direct-drive turntable to date" will include a coreless direct drive motor, a two-sided rotor drive system and a platter—made of brass, aluminum die-cast and deadening rubber—weighing 7kg. The firm says the SP-10R will deliver the world's best signal-to-noise ratio (92db) and rotational stability, and a wow & flutter rate of 0.015%. The unit comes with a separate power supply unit to better minimise hum and vibration. The firm will launch a tonearm and other complementary components at a later date. 

The audio tech firm, a subsidiary of Panasonic, unveiled the turntable earlier this week at the Berlin-based trade fair, IFA 2017, or Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin. The model is an update of the SP-10, the world's first direct-drive turntable, released in 1970, and used by broadcasters, including the BBC, across 30 countries. Successor models—the SP-10MK2 and SP-10MK3—emerged in the mid-'70s and early '80s. In the last year, the Japanese firm has launched two updated versions of the classic Technics 1200 turntable, the SL-1200G and the cheaper SL-1200GR.
